MEDFORD The seventh-ranked Tufts University women's soccer team tied the school record with its eighth straight win, 3-0, over 20th ranked Bowdoin College in NESCAC play on the Bello turf Saturday afternoon.

The win matches the 1979 Jumbo team's eight-game winning streak. Junior goalkeeper Annie Ross (Newton, MA) made 10 saves for the shutout win, Tufts' fourth of the season. The Jumbos (8-1, 4-1 NESCAC) remain tied for first place in the conference. Bowdoin (6-3-1, 3-3) is winless in its last three.

Despite the score, play was very back-and-forth in terrible rainy conditions. Tufts was able to create more goal-scoring opportunities. Just four minutes in, they took a 1-0 lead when senior tri-captain Lindsay Garmirian (Amherst, MA) scored on a break-away. Both teams proved to be very dangerous in the first 20 minutes. A Bowdoin shot at the 10-minute mark slipped under Ross, but she was able to scramble for the clear.

The Jumbos continued to pressure the Bowdoin goal and added to their lead in the 43rd minute when sophomore Lauren Fedore (East Lansing, MI) launched a shot from 30 yards out that dropped over Bowdoin keeper Anna Shapell (Cape Elizabeth, ME) and into the goal.

Coming out of half, the Jumbos scored a huge goal just three minutes in to lead 3-0, with a cross by sophomore Martha Furtek (East Falmouth, MA) headed into the opposite corner by senior tri-captain Ariel Samuelson (Newton, MA). It was her eighth goal, the best Tufts total since 2002. The Jumbos held the 3-0 lead for the remainder and finished with advantages in shots (12-9) and corner kicks (7-4).

Shapell made nine saves in the Bowdoin cage.
