KEENE, N.H. - Visiting Tufts University scored a goal in each half on the way to posting a 2-0 non-conference women's soccer victory over host Keene State College at Owl Athletic Complex on Tuesday night.
Freshman Martha Furtek (East Falmouth, MA) gave Tufts a 1-0 lead at the 6:44 mark when she blasted in a shot that went off the fingertips of KSC goalie Michelle Mason (Fairport, NY) into the far corner of the net. Tara Wagner (Avon, CT) had KSC's best opportunity to score when her shot hit off the post minutes later.
Mason kept it a one-goal game when she stopped consecutive point blank shots from junior Sarah Callaghan (Northborough, MA) and senior co-captain Becky Greenstein (Newton, MA) at the 36:31 mark. With Mason out of position, back Missy Mangual knocked away the ball heading into the net. Callaghan wouldn't be denied three minutes later when she put in a rebound to give the Jumbos a 2-0 lead.
Mason tied a school record with 17 saves for KSC (9-5-1) while senior Meg McCourt (Rochester, NY) finished with two saves to post the shutout for the Jumbos (6-3-2) who extend their winning streak to four games.
