BABSON PARK, Mass. -- Nationally-ranked Tufts University improved to 3-0 on the season with a very impressive 2-0 victory over host Babson College in New England Division III women's soccer action on Tuesday afternoon.
Entering the week ranked second in New England and 13th in the country by the NSCAA, Tufts dominated the contest throughout, outshooting Babson (1-5) by a count of 21-4. The Jumbos received all the offense they would need when junior Jen Baldwin (Medway, MS) sent a beautiful thru-ball to sophomore Sarah Callaghan (Northboro, MA), who tucked a wide open shot past charging goalkeeper Katie McMackin (Needham, MA) and into the back right corner of the net at 36:13.
The Jumbos would add an insurance goal with just under nine minutes remaining in the second half, as junior Becky Greenstein (Newton, MA) hit a corner kick that deflected off McMackin and just crossed the goal line.
Junior goalie Meg McCourt (Rochester, NY) made her only save of the game on a shot by Babson senior tri-captain Laura Davis (Winchester, MA) early in the first half. The shutout was her first of the season and 10th of her career. McMackin once again played well in defeat for the Beavers, finishing with 10 saves.
