LEWISTON, Maine -- Freshman forward Elizabeth Tooley (Syracuse, NY) scored her first career goal 10 minutes into the first overtime as the Tufts University Jumbos (4-2-1) defeated the Bates College Bobcats (3-3) in NESCAC women's soccer action on Lafayette Street Field Saturday.

The Bobcats got on the board first in the 39th minute as freshman forward Denise Purpura scored her first career goal on an
assist from junior midfielder Val Rosenberg. The Jumbos tied the score just before the first half expired, as sophomore forward
Lynn Cooper (Wilton, CT) scored her fourth goal of the season with three seconds left on the clock when she was in the right place at the right time to collect a rebound off the crossbar following a shot by freshman Brenna O'Rourke (Bethesda, MD).

The second half was scoreless, but Tufts picked up the win on Tooley's goal, assisted by classmate Adi Sherwood (Woodinville, WA). Tufts junior Randee McArdle (East Nassau, NY) picked up the win with eight saves, while Bates freshman keeper Kim Martell had nine stops in the losing effort.

The victory was Tufts's third straight against the Bobcats and, following a good 0-0 tie at Wellesley earlier in the week, head coach Martha Whiting's team is now 4-2-1 overall. They host Anna Maria College on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
