Kate Barnosky contributed 14 points to Tufts' tournament win

WESTON -- Junior Collen Hart (Needham, MA) finished with a game-high 21 points for Tufts (7-1), leading the Jumbos to 61-43 victory over Maine Maritime (2-4) on Saturday night in the first round of the Park Lodge Tournament hosted by Regis College. Tufts will face host Regis in the Park Lodge Tournament Championship game scheduled for Sunday at 3:00 pm.

Hart shot 67 percent from the field (eight of 12), and made five of her six three pointers on the night. She became the Tufts program's all-time leader in three-pointers with the 140th of her career in the game. She surpassed the 139 scored by Valerie Krah from 2003-07. Hart is shooting an extraordinary 55.4 percent (31/56) from beyond the arch this season.

Joining Hart in double figures was sophomore Kate Barnosky (Huntington Station, NY) with 14 points. Barnosky was six of nine from the floor (67 percent), and was perfect from the free throw line (two of two).

The Mariners' Sam Goda (Eliot, ME) finished with a team-high 14 points. Maine Maritime controlled the boards for much of the game, finishing with 40 total rebounds. Goda had nine total boards for the Mariners.

Barnosky hit a jumper and Hart scored a three-pointer and the Jumbos were off and running, up 5-0 early. They would not trail in the game, opening a 24-8 advantage halfway into the first half. They led 30-19 at the break, with Hart and Barnosky scoring 10 points each for the Jumbos.

The Mariners closed within seven points at 34-27 after a jumper by Goda at 16:28 of the second half. However, Hart nailed two threes to get the lead back up to 15 for Tufts (42-27). The Jumbo lead was in double digits the rest of the way.

Tufts out-shot the Mariners in both periods. The Jumbos shot better than 42 percent from the floor in the first period (14/33), compared to Maine Maritime's 23 percent (7/30). For the game Tufts finished with 44.1 percent (26/59) to the Mariners' 30 percent (18/60).

Maine Maritime will play in the consolation game versus Framingham State College at 1:00 pm.
