Jesse Faller will run in his third NCAA Championship Race next Saturday

CUMBERLAND, Me. -- Two-time All-American Jesse Faller (Burlington, MA) of the Tufts men's cross country team will race at the NCAA Division III Championship Race for the third straight year after a strong performance at the New England Region Qualifier on Saturday afternoon. Faller placed fourth individually with a 25:26.8 time in the rain at Twin Brooks Recreation Center.

Faller was just 10 seconds behind 2009 regional champion Edgar Kosgey from Williams College, who won with a 25:16.2 time. An individual qualifier for Nationals, Faller will run next Saturday in the NCAA race at the Highland Hills Golf Course in Cleveland, Ohio. He finished 18th at the NCAA race in 2007 when Tufts qualified as a team. Last year, he raced individually and placed 35th. Both are All-American performances.

The Jumbos were eighth out of 48 teams at the regional, scoring 194 points. Williams won the title with a 53 score, followed by Amherst (104), Keene State (132), and Brandeis (145). Williams and Amherst earn automatic team berths to Nationals. Other at-large invitations will be awarded on Sunday night.

Freshman Kyle Marks (Carmel, IN) finished second for Tufts and 23rd overall with a 26:06.3 time over the 8,000-meter course. Junior Jeff Ragazzini (Wilton, CT) had one of his best races of the season, taking 29th place (26:11.2). As did junior Chris Brunnquell (Harrington Park, NJ), who crossed the finish line in 26:20.3 for 35th place. The fifth Tufts scorer was sophomore Connor Rose (Irvine, CA), whose 27:24.9 was 103rd. The race included 323 runners overall.

Jumbo captain Nick Welch (Seattle, WA) and freshman Matt Rand (Cape Elizabeth, ME) were not at full strength for the Jumbos on Saturday.
