Race Results

Jesse Faller will run at the NCAA Championship Race for the third straight year

WILLIAMSTOWN -- Junior Jesse Faller (Burlington, MA) of the Tufts University men's cross country team took second place at the 2008 NCAA Div. III New England Qualifier held at Mount Greylock High School on Saturday afternoon. Faller's time of 26:03.5 for 8,000 meters was 11 seconds off the regional championship time of 25:52.7 run by Williams College junior Edgar Kosgey.

As a result, Faller will run at the NCAA National Championship Race for the third time. He has run with the team at the past two NCAA national meets, but will go solo this year at the race to be held at the L.S. Ayres Complex in Hanover, Indiana next Saturday (Nov. 15).

The Jumbos did not qualify as a team this year, placing 11th. Their team score of 265 was two points behind 10th place Connecticut College (263). Williams College won the NCAA New England team title with a 36 score. That was far ahead of the rest of the field, with second-place Amherst scoring 122. Faller qualified individually as one of a select group of runners who were not members of NCAA qualifying teams.

Tufts junior Nick Welch (Seattle, WA) was the second Jumbo finisher, 45th overall, with a 27:21.9 time. In 61st for the race and third for Tufts was junior Ryan Lena (Orono, ME) with his 27:35.2 finish. The fourth Tufts scorer (77th overall) was sophomore Chris Brunnquell (Harrington Park, NJ), who crossed the finish line in 27:54.4. Sophomore Jeff Ragazzini (Wilton, CT) ran 28:01.2 for 80th overall and the fifth and final Tufts scoring time.

Other Jumbos in action on Saturday were sophomore Jerzy Eisenberg-Guyot (Brookline, MA) in 120th place (28:36.1) and freshman Connor Rose (Irvine, CA), who was 179th with a 29:54.4 finish. The field featured 331 runners overall.
