NORTH DARTMOUTH -- In a rest week for the lead varsity squad, the Tufts men's cross country team was seventh out of 20 at the UMass Dartmouth Shriners Invitational on Saturday. Their team score of 216 was ahead of Springfield (231) and behind Amherst (194). MIT won the team title with an outstanding 41 score.

Freshman Connor Rose (Irvine, CA) took his place as the Jumbo leader for the day, finishing the five-mile run with a 27:31 time that was 36th overall. The rest of the Jumbo scorers were not far behind. Matt Wittman was second for Tufts and 41st overall (27:39). Freshman classmates Phillip Grannan (Cincinnati, OH) and Henry Frey (Providence, RI) crossed the line together in 27:49 for 48th and 49th place, respectively. The last Tufts scorer was junior Billy Hale (Menlo Park, CA), who ran 28:07 for 66th.

Brandeis University's Marc Boutin won the race out of 238 runners (25:47).

Tufts competes at the Connecticut College Invitational next Saturday.
