LACEY LEADS TUFTS TO EIGHTH PLACE AT UMASS DARTMOUTH

NORTH DARTMOUTH -- Junior Matt Lacey (Amherst, MA) finished ninth overall and third among collegiate runners covering the 7,980 meters in 25 minutes, 42 seconds to help the Tufts men's cross country team to an eighth-place finish out of 29 teams at the 2004 UMass Dartmouth Invitational.
Bates College won the race with 58 points, followed closely by Brown at 62 led by top collegiate finisher Nick Neely in 25:33. Tufts checked in with a score of 194.
Junior Kyle Doran (North Attleborough, MA) ran second for Tufts and 40th overall in a time of 26:39 for a score of 31. Right on his heels was sophomore Justin Chung (Manchester, CT) in 46th place overall (26:46). Rounding out the scoring for head coach Connie Putnam's Jumbos were freshman Chris Kantos (Apple Valley, MN) in 27:22 (74th) and junior Mike Cummings (Cheshire, CT) in 27:25 (76th).
Tufts hosts its first meet of the year at the Grafton campus course next Saturday (Sept. 25).
