WILLIAMSTOWN -- The Tufts Men's Cross Country team competed in the ECAC Championship this past Saturday at Williams College in Williamstown, Mass. The Jumbos placed fourth overall out of 42 competing Division III schools. With a score of 134 points, Tufts finished only seven points behind third-place Keene State (127), and 11 points behind second-place Williams (123). Colby College won the meet with a team score of 80 points.
Pacing the Jumbos was freshman Tim Creedon (Holden, MA), who finished 15th overall with a time of 27:41.4. Not far behind was freshman Kyle Doran (North Attleborough, MA), whose time of 27:43.5 was good for 16th place. Freshman Mike Cummings (Cheshire, CT) clocked in at 27:48.8 for a 20th place finish, while freshman Hadrian Engel (Cumberland, ME) took 27th place with a time of 28:04.9. Rounding out the Jumbo top five was senior Adam Sharp (Alexandria, NH), who finished 56th overall with a time of 28:41.2. Other finishers for the Jumbos included junior Jon Rosen (Amherst, MA), who took 69th place in 28:59.1, and sophomore Ryan Phill (Gig Harbor, WA), who rounded out the Jumbo scoring with a time of 29:31.8 and 100th place.
Today's performance highlights the depth of the Jumbo squad, as Tufts' top runners took the day off in anticipation of next Saturday's NCAA Regional, to be held at Westfield State (Nov. 16). The top-five squads from that race will go on to the NCAA National meet, to be held at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, on November 23.
