MIAMI -- The luxurious Biltmore Hotel in Miami
played host to Tufts against NESCAC foe Hamilton College on Friday.
All 12 Tufts varsity players saw action in the match and each player
had a hand in a 9-0 win. The outcome gave Tufts wins in both of its
spring-break matches and improved their 2007-08 record to 5-2
overall. They have won three matches in a row. The Continentals
dropped to 1-3 overall.
In doubles, the action was capped off with a
dominant win by sophomores Jon Trott (Milton, MA) and
Andrew Rosen (Armonk, NY) in the #1 match. Rosen's craftiness of
placement and lobs paired well with Trott's power game to win
convincingly 8-1. At #2 doubles, freshman Paul Kohnstamm
(Larchmont, NY) and classmate Tom Wilmanski (Warsaw, Poland)
held on despite equipment failure which produced inconsistent play.
In the singles, Tufts didn't drop a set led by local
Floridian Bryan Wilner (Miami, FL), who controlled his match
with penetrating ground strokes. Big-serving Daniel Landers (Sao
Paulo, Brazil) won his second straight match at #5. At #1,
senior Will Fleder (New York, NY) got back on track as he
recorded his first straight-set win since defeating Bryan Brown of
Colby earlier this season.
Coach Doug Eng's team returns home and will host a
NESCAC match against Connecticut College on Thursday (Mar. 27).
