NESCAC SELECTS VORLICEK AS MEN'S SWIMMING &
DIVING PERFORMER OF THE WEEK
MEDFORD --
Sophomore Chris Vorlicek (Del Mar, CA) of the Tufts
University men's swimming & diving team is the New England Small
College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Performer of the Week after his
back-to-back solid efforts during the opening weekend of the 2008-09
season.
The award comes on the strength of Vorlicek winning
three events at a tri-meet hosted by Connecticut College with
Middlebury College on Saturday. His first victory came in the 1,000
freestyle with a 10:11.90 time early in the race. Later in the day,
he touched first in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:17.62 winning time
and followed that up with a 4:17.66 time to win the 400 individual
medley.
On Sunday, Tufts hosted its first meet of the season
at Hamilton Pool against Brandeis University. In the opening 400
medley relay, Vorlicek was part of a Tufts foursome that placed
fourth in the event (3:51.64). Later in the meet, he swam fourth in
the 200 butterfly with a 2:11.71 finish. He then recorded his fourth
victory of the weekend in the 500 freestyle to cap his efforts,
finishing in 4:56.96.
Vorlicek's performances helped Tufts post victories
against the three opponents they faced to open the new season.
