& DIVING TEAM
MEDFORD -- Freshman Chris Vorlicek (Del Mar,
CA/Torrey Pines) and sophomore diver Rob Matera (Trumbull,
CT/Trumbull) of the Tufts University men's swimming and diving team
earned All-New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC)
status after their performances at the conference championship meet
hosted by Middlebury College last weekend (Feb. 29-March 2).

The All-NESCAC team is comprised of competitors who
placed among the top three in the individual and relay events at the
conference meet. Vorlicek had the best Tufts swimming finish with a
second place in the 400 individual medley. His finals time of
4:08.21 was a school record, an NCAA B-cut qualifier and was over a
second and a half faster than the time he posted in the
preliminaries. A NESCAC Performer of the Week during the season,
Vorlicek established himself as one of the top freshmen in the
NESCAC this winter.
Matera earns All-NESCAC accolades for the second
consecutive season. He scored second place in the 3-meter diving
event on Sunday at Middlebury with a tally of 467.70 points. Just
short of earning All-Conference honors for 1-meter diving as well,
he finished fourth in that event. His score of 421.35 in NESCAC
3-meter last season was also a runner-up effort.
Coach Adam Hoyt's team finished second at the
championships, a truly amazing testament to their team depth. With
only two All-NESCAC performers, the Jumbos were well below teams
from Amherst, Connecticut College and Middlebury that scored below
them at the meet. The Jumbos are currently awaiting word on whether
their best times and scores will qualify for the NCAA meet. They
find out on Thursday.
