ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Brothers Jake and Alex
Gross (Washington, DC), the top two players in the Tufts men's
squash team order, competed at the 2008 College Squash Association
(CSA) Individuals Championships this weekend at the Naval Academy.
Seeded 30th in the Potter Cup (top 32 ranked
players), senior tri-captain Jake Gross lost to #2 ranked Mauricio
Sanchez from Princeton in the first round 9-2, 9-2, 9-3. In the
consolation round, he faced home favorite Tucker George of Navy, the
#14 seed who was defeated in four games in the first round. Gross
went five games against George before losing 1-9, 9-3, 6-9, 9-0,
9-5.
In the Malloy Cup (56 players ranked 33-86),
freshman Alex Gross lost his first-round match to Ryan Forster of
Western Ontario 9-4, 9-3, 9-2. Gross was ranked 38th in the draw and
Forster was 27th. Receiving a buy in the first consolation round,
Alex Gross won his round of 16 match in the consolation, 9-0, 9-2,
9-0 over Robert McCary of Colgate, the 54th ranked player in the
field. Gross was eliminated by #33 Allan Lutz of Navy in the
quarter-finals 9-7, 9-7, 9-5. Lutz went on to win the consolation
bracket.
The Tufts men's squash season ended with the CSA
Individual Championships.
