ROOKIE OF THE YEAR AWARD IN NEW JERSEY

Freshman defensive end Donnie Simmons (Houston, TX) of the
Tufts University football team was at the Meadowlands Sports Complex
in East Rutherford, New Jersey last night to receive the 2008 Eastern College Athletic Conference
(ECAC) Division III Northeast Football Rookie of the Year award.
The ECAC honored the players and rookies of the year in each
division and region at the annual Eastern College Football Awards
Banquet presented by FieldTurf Tarkett. The event was held in the
Pegasus Restaurant at the Meadowlands Complex.
Simmons, the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Rookie of the Year and the first freshman named
to the All-NESCAC first team in over two decades, had 3.5 sacks and 8.5 tackles for losses
among his 41 total stops during the 2008 season. He also intercepted
a pass, forced a fumble, recovered a fumble and blocked a kick for
Coach Bill Samko's Jumbos.
