ROOKIE LINEBACKER BRIAN DANSHAW HONORED BY NESCAC FOR WEEK TWO PLAY

Linebacker Brian Danshaw is a new Jumbo to watch

MEDFORD -- Brian Danshaw (Colleyville, TX/Colleyville Heritage) is the New England Small College Athletic Conference's (NESCAC) Rookie of the week for his play at linebacker for the Tufts football team at Bates College on Saturday (Sept. 29).

Danshaw finished the game with five tackles overall, third among Jumbo defenders for the day. He entered the game as a back-up and was a productive player as the Jumbos moved to 2-0 with a 35-20 victory over the Bobcats.

Danshaw came to Tufts this year from the heart of football country in Texas. His Colleyville Heritage High School Panthers play 5A Texas Football. Danshaw attended the Yale University camp in the summer of 2006 and met some Tufts coaches, including defensive coordinator John Walsh. Interested in a strong academic school with serious football, he decided that Tufts had the most to offer him. He's climbed the depth chart at linebacker in his first season and should take on a larger role in special teams coverage as the season moves forward.

For the Jumbos, it's the first Texas recruit who could have a major impact on the team. It's an area of football from which the Tufts coaching staff would love to attract more players who are also interested in an outstanding education.
