RYNNE NAMED OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR OF JUMBO FOOTBALL
MEDFORD -- Scott Rynne, who has 11 years of college football coaching experience,
has been hired this month by the Tufts University football team. Previously the
interim head football coach at Pomona-Pitzer College in California, Rynne will
serve as Jumbos'offensive coordinator and receivers coach.
Rynne
has experience with all aspects of coaching during his career. At Pomona-Pitzer,
along with his interim head coaching duties from 2003-05, he was defensive
coordinator of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's
second-ranked unit in 2005. In a previous stint at Pomona (1995-98), he was the
offensive coordinator when the Sagehens were ranked fourth nationally in total
offense and scoring during the 1997 season.
At
Union College from 2000-03, Rynne was special teams coordinator and defensive
backs coach for a team that qualified for the NCAA playoffs. From 1998-2000, he
was the offensive line coach at Susquehanna University and coached two
All-Americans.
"We
were very fortunate to hire a coach of Scott's caliber at this point in
time," Tufts coach Bill Samko said. "He'll fit right in and will be a
valuable addition to our staff."
Rynne
replaces Marshall Creighton, who accepted a coaching assignment at Williams
College in early August. A 2002 graduate of Williams, Creighton worked for three
seasons with the Jumbos.
Also a
graduate of Williams (Class of 1991), Rynne was a member of the first undefeated
team in Ephs history and was the team's Most Valuable Player. He will also act
as the equipment manager at Tufts. He has extensive lacrosse coaching experience
as well, holding the head women's job at Pomona-Pitzer and the head men's
job at Susquehanna. Rynne is originally from Sudbury, Massachusetts.
Tufts opens its 2006 football season at home against Hamilton on September 23.
