LAWERENCE NAMED TO D3FOOTBALL.COM ALL-AMERICA TEAM
MEDFORD
-- Off the field, strong senior leadership led Chris
Lawrence (Falmouth, MA/Falmouth) to becomming a captain for the Tufts
University Football team. On the
field, his leadership along with outstanding play led him to honorable mention
on the All-American team, which was released by D3football.com.
Lawrence
was given other honors that included being named to the 2004 New England
Football Writers' Division II/III Team, where he was one of seven New England
Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) players named to this squad.
Lawrence was also selected to the All-NESCAC First Team earlier this
fall.
Lawrence
played in all eight games this season allowing himself to produce some
remarkable statistics. He finished
with 72 tackles, in which 31 of these were his own, and 41 were assisted.
His 9.0 tackles per game tied him for ninth in the NESCAC and made him
the only defensive lineman in the top 10. Lawrence
not only made tackles, he had three sacks for a total of 25 yards lost, four
pass deflections, and one fumble recovery.
Lawrence's
strongest performance of the year was his last collegiate football game against
Middlebury College. He had eight
tackles (six solo), including four for losses of 18 yards plus one and a half
sacks, in which the sack led to a loss of ten yards.
The six solo tackles and one and a half sacks were both season highs for
Lawrence. He had a season high 12
tackles twice, once against Bates and then against Williams.
Lawrence
led the Jumbos to third in rushing defense allowing just 111.1 yards per game,
and fifth in total defense allowing 17 touchdowns and 290.8 yards per game.
Lawrence
has had great success in his four years as a Jumbo.
He will be missed by his teammates and coaches for not only his
outstanding play on the field, but the leadership that he displayed.
