ROLLE BREAKS TUFTS AND NESCAC RECORDS FOR FIELD GOALS

MEDFORD – Senior place-kicker Marcellus Rolle (Smyrna, GA/Lovett) of the Tufts University Football team kicked a 25-yard field goal for Jumbos to make the score 7-6 Middlebury at 7:59 of the third quarter in Saturday's 10-6 loss.  Not only was the kick important in terms of the game, but it was also his 10th of the season to set both the Tufts University and New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) records for most field goals in a season.

The 18-year old Tufts record of nine was set back in 1985 by Paul Medeiros.  Setting a Tufts record is no small feat, as its football history dates back to 1875. Rolle also holds the school record for longest placement field goal.  He converted on a 49-yard kick against Williams in 2002.

This was also not Rolle's first entry in the NESCAC record book, as his seven field goals in the 2002 season was enough to be recognized in a tie for second for field goals in a season.  He now leads that list, as his 10 field goals this season broke the old mark of eight set by David Bodner of Amherst in 2002.  The NESCAC has been keeping track of these records since its member schools began exclusively playing one another in football back in 1992.

Rolle's 37-yard kick against Colby in the Jumbos' 18-0 win earlier this season was his longest of the season.  He also converted on a 35-yard kick before halftime of Saturday's loss to Middlebury.  In total, Rolle efficiently converted on 10 of his 13 attempts this season, giving him an impressive 76.9% kick percentage that will be among the national leaders.  Rolle converted on 12 of his 15 extra point attempts, giving him a total of 42 points on the season, leading the team.

In his two seasons as Tufts' place kicker, Rolle totaled 17 field goals.  The all-time leader for Tufts is Chris Wild who made 21 field goals in four seasons from 1988 to 1991.  Medeiros made 18 field goals over the course of three years from 1985 to 1987.
