NEW COACHING APPOINTMENTS FOR FOOTBALL

MEDFORD – The coaching staff of the Tufts University football team is set for the 2002 season, with many of the same faces in new positions. A domino effect of changes was caused when offensive coordinator Chris Nugai left for a job at Columbia in the spring. The staff will work under Head Coach Bill Samko, now in his ninth year at Tufts.

Mike Daly, a 1995 Tufts grad who was the team's leading receiver in 1993, has been promoted to offensive coordinator. He was previously the linebackers coach for the defense, which ranked fourth nationally last season allowing just 10.4 points per game. Daly is also the Head Coach of the men's lacrosse program at Tufts.

Brian Carroll, the team's graduate assistant coach last year, has joined the staff full-time and will take Daly's place as a defensive assistant in charge of the ends. Carroll's spot as GA will be filled by Jeff Karacz, the former starting safety who was a part-time assistant last fall.

Two part-timers are the newest members of the staff. Joe Gaff, the Head Coach at local Matignon and Chelsea High Schools, is on board as an offensive assistant working with the running backs. Ed Frye, Head Coach for 15 years at Philips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire, will be a defensive assistant responsible for the line.

Tufts opens its 2002 season at home against Hamilton on September 21.
