WORCESTER -- In a race they led from wire to wire, the Tufts
University Varsity Four won the premier Men's event at the New
England Fours Championship on Sunday at Lake Quinsigamond in
Worcester.
The Jumbo four bested a file of 15 entries on their way to an
impressive one-length victory over UConn in the six boat final.
Amherst was edged out by a small margin and took the bronze, with
Coast Guard, Vermont and Trinity rounding out the top six finishers.
Earlier in the day, the Tufts 2nd Varsity Four and Novice Fours both
staged fifth-place finishes in their respective grand finals helping
the Jumbos to a third place overall team finish. The victory by
Tufts in this event is the first in more than 18 years, as the crew
of Robert Bayless, Matt Diffey, Kevin Conroy, Stephan Juergensen and
Josh Aschheim (cox) brought home the gold for the Jumbos.
