Frequently Asked Questions
Intramurals

Fourteen intramural sports are offered as part of
the IM program at Tufts. The emphasis in intramurals at Tufts is on both fun and
competition. The intensive training of varsity
intercollegiate athletics and club sports is not part of the
intramural agenda. There are no practice sessions and no
required ability level for any sport. However, these teams play hard
and compete in one or two games per week.
Dormitories, groups of friends with a common athletic
interest, or Greek houses may organize intramural teams.
Faculty and staff are also invited to form or join
teams.
The style of competition is usually very relaxed and
enjoyable, though at times it can reach an intense level. Sports are
offered either once or twice a year, in the fall, and/or spring
semester. The IM seasons are broken down into 3 seasons, much like
varsity sports. The sports that are offered each season are shown
below.
Before you sign
up: THIS IS IMPORTANT INFO!!!
-
Your sport
will require a weekly commitment to a scheduled game time. Your
failure to show up or have adequate numbers at the forfeit time
will result in a forfeit and your team being removed from the
league for the remainder of the schedule.
-
You should
have enough players on your roster to cover the minimum amount
required even if a conflict arises for some members of your
team. Consider placing some alternates on your roster who will
play when regular players can not attend.
-
You will have
to field a team between all the hours listed. In other words, if
the post says dodgeball from 6-11 pm on Wednesdays, you will
need to field a team at ANY point within that block. If half of
your team has class until 7, add more players to be there if
your team is scheduled at 6. Games last about an hour. We can
not accept special requests for game times due to the nature of
the scheduling software.
