Facility Information
The Athletics Department features excellent facilities for the
entire Tufts University community to use. One of our major functions
is to encourage the university community to start a personal program
of recreation so that you can experience the benefits and joy of
feeling fit and having fun.
We try to provide as much free recreational time as possible, given
the limitations of space and the demands of intercollegiate
athletics, physical education classes, intramural sports and special
events.
For more information on the programs we offer , please visit the
Physical Education web site.
Athletic Facilities Overview Construction was completed in November 1999 on the Gantcher Family

tennis courts and accommodates up to 6,000 people for large events.

Covering 6,000 square feet, Tufts' Ames Human Performance Center,
featuring the Lunder Fitness Center, is a physical performance
center that offers equipment and services to Tufts athletes as well
as the entire Tufts community. Equipment by Cybex, Body Master,
Samson, and Hammer Strength enhance services provided by a full-time
strength and conditioning specialist and sports medicine staff. The
Tufts Jumbo Club recently donated $10,000 for the purchase of new
equipment for the facility.
Tufts is proud to have one of the best outdoor track and field
facilities in New England. The Clarence "Ding" Dussault Track &
Field Complex, named for the legendary Tufts coach, has hosted
numerous New England championship events. The track is better than
ever after it was resurfaced over the summer. Varsity teams practice
and compete on spacious, well-groomed playing fields and in Cousens
Gymnasium.
The Cousens Complex includes the Main Gym and Chase Gymnasium for
basketball and volleyball. In the summer 2002, Tufts completed the
renovation of Cousens Cage, a gym that includes recreation,
intramural, and practice space adjacent to the basketball court. The
new Cage was dedicated in honor of Rocco J. Carzo, the longtime
coach and Director of Athletics at Tufts. The Cousens Complex also
includes squash courts, the six-lane Hamilton Swimming Pool, sports
medicine and rowing rooms, locker rooms and a sauna.
Located on upper Mystic Lake is the Tufts Yacht Club, home of the
internationally renowned sailing teams. All of the campus athletic
facilities are regularly available for every use, accommodating
students who enjoy structured participation and those who find a
program of recreation and exercise most beneficial.
Jackson
Gym's availability is based on priority use: academic classes,
intercollegiate athletic contests, dance program concerts, club
sports, intramurals and general recreation. Groups of 10 or more may
call and reserve a one-hour block of time. Call 627-3782
from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.
