MEDFORD -- Senior co-captain Andrew Criezis
(Evanston, IL) of the Tufts Sailing team finished fifth at the
2009 Men's New England Single-handed Championships hosted by Roger
Williams University over the weekend. The top four finishers earned
berths into the Intercollegiate Sailing Association National
Single-handed Championships, which Criezis missed by one place.
In 19 races at the New England Championships,
Criezis accumulated 145 points to comfortably finish fifth. Yale's
Thomas Barrows won the New England title with a score of 55. Fred
Strammer from Brown, and Cy Thompson and Luke Lawrence from Roger
Williams also qualified for Nationals.
Among 22 competitors overall, Criezis had five
finishes in the top five. He won the 13th race and was runner-up in
the 14th race.
Tufts freshmen Albert Nichols (Portland, ME)
and Will Hutchings were also entered and placed 14th (250
pts.) and 15th (262), respectively.
