CAMBRIDGE -- A second-place finish in the B Division led the Tufts University co-ed sailing team to third place overall at the 2009 Hood Trophy hosted by the Jumbos at Upper Mystic Lake on Saturday and Sunday. Tufts' final score of 146 was just two behind second-place Salve Regina's 144. Roger Williams won the team title (112).

In B Division, four Tufts sailors combined for the Jumbo effort. The Tufts score of 60 was only behind Roger Williams University's 45 in the B races. Sophomore Nicolas Russo-Larsson (Newport Beach, CA) handled the first through fourth races for Tufts, then senior skipper Andrew Criezis (Evanston, IL) took over for the fifth through 10th. Crew responsibilities were split by sophomore Jordana Hanselman (Libertyville, IL) and senior Jen Watkins (Edina, MN). In 10 races, the Jumbo B dinghy won once, had two seconds and three fourths.

The A Division boat of sophomore skipper Massimo Soriano (New York, NY) and sophomore crew Emily Shaw (Cazenovia, NY) finished eighth with finishes totaling up to 86. They won the first race of the regatta and had a third in the sixth race.

The Jumbo varsity sails at Coast Guard's Danmark Trophy next weekend.
