SAILING TAKES FRESHMEN ATLANTIC COAST CHAMPIONSHIP

MEDFORD -- The Tufts University Co-ed Sailing team placed first out of 13 schools at the Freshmen Atlantic Coast Championship at Massachusetts Maritime Academy this past Saturday and Sunday, November 8 and 9.  The team scored a total of 117 points between the A and B divisions, besting Dartmouth College and Hobart College, who both finished second with 128 points.

In the A division, Tufts skipper Peter Fallon (North Falmouth, MA) and crew Anna Martin (Kittery Point, ME) finished first overall with 46 points, including two first-place finishes and three second-place finishes in 12 races.  In the B division, skipper Jimmy Praley (Annapolis, MD) paired with crew Duncan Kopp (Providence, RI) for the first six races and Michaela Brady Lederer (Arlington, VA) for the second six races to finish with 71 points, good for fifth place overall in the B division.

This marks the second straight year the team has won this event.  They took last year's event with 109 total points to second-place Georgetown's 121 points.

The Jumbos have only three regattas left in their fall season.  They have enjoyed great success already this season, as the co-ed team is ranked fourth in the nation and the women's team is ranked sixth in the nation according to the latest poll, released October 28.
