FOUR JUMBOS EARN ALL-REGIONAL LACROSSE HONORS
MEDFORD -- Four members of the Tufts University women's lacrosse
team were recently selected to one of the two Intercollegiate
Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-Region teams. The
IWLCA's Pilgrim region, one of two in New England for women's
lacrosse, includes Jumbos Lauren Murphy (Hingham, MA/Hingham)
and senior Jackie Thomas (Needham, MA/Needham) on the First Team,
with junior Sarah Bromley (Haddam, CT/Taft) and sophomore
Courtney Thomas (Needham, MA/Needham) on the Second
Team.
The regional honor is the third for Murphy, who was also on the
First Team in 2005 and the Second Team in 2006. Jackie Thomas was on the
Second Team last season, while this is the first honor for Bromley
and Courtney Thomas. The Thomas' are sisters.
Murphy finished the season with 29 goals and eight assists for 37
points, along with 44 ground balls, 30 draw controls and 24 caused
turnovers in 14 games. Jackie Thomas led the team with 45 ground
balls, 23 draw controls and 36 caused turnovers, while also
contributing four goals and five assists offensively. Bromley played
great take-away defense, with 28 caused turnovers and 21 ground
balls. Courtney Thomas led the Jumbos in scoring with 35 goals and
nine assists for 44 points, while also contributing 30 groundballs
and 16 draw controls.
The Jumbos finished 7-7 overall and 3-6 in the New England Small
College Athletic Conference, just missing out on a conference
tournament berth.
