MILLER NAMED TUFTS' FIRST NESCAC WOMEN'S LACROSSE PLAYER OF THE WEEK SINCE '99

MEDFORD -- Senior tri-captain Dena Miller (Denver, CO/East High School) of the Tufts University Women's Lacrosse team proved to be a valuable offensive force for the Jumbos last week and was named the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Player of the Week for her performances in wins over Buffalo State and Bridgewater State last week.

Miller is the first Jumbo to win Player of the Week honors in women's lacrosse since Hedda Silkoff was selected NESCAC Goalie of the Week on April 12, 1999. In the two games last week, she posted seven goals and three assists for 10 points. In the game against Buffalo State on Monday (March 20), Miller tallied two goals, including the game-winner, and two assists to help the Jumbos capture a 13-4 victory. Against Bridgewater State on Saturday (March 26), Miller again led her team with five goals and an assists in a 16-5 romp. With that win, the team improved to a 4-0 record and continued its early season undefeated streak.

Wellesley College had shadowed Miller and held her scoreless in an 11-6 Tufts win to open the season on March 15. Over her last three games since, Miller has 11 goals and five assists for 16 points, which places her as the offensive leader for the Jumbos. She leads the team with 19 shots and has scored on an excellent .579 percent of them so far this season.

Last year, Miller ended the season with 28 goals and 14 assists giving her 42 points, second on the team but the leader in assists. Additionally, Miller scored the most game-winning goals for the team, with three. As a sophomore she scored a career high 34 goals with nine assists for a team-high 43 points. She emerged on the college scene with 17 goals and 10 assists for 27 points as a freshman in 2003. With 90 career goals and 38 assists for 128 points in 45 games at Tufts, she is just outside the all-time top 10 for scoring and 10 goals shy of 100 in her career.

The Jumbos hold their home season-opener on Saturday at noon against Bates.
