MILLER SCORES 100TH GOAL FOR TUFTS WOMEN'S LACROSSE
MEDFORD -- With her first goal of the week last Tuesday (Apr. 11) at Middlebury
College, senior tri-captain Dena Miller (Denver, CO/East) became the
tenth player in Tufts University women's lacrosse history to score 100 goals
in her career.
Miller
entered the season with 79 goals in her previous three years with the Jumbos.
After scoring 20 goals in her first seven games this spring, she added 11 more
last week in games against Middlebury, Babson and Connecticut College. She
currently has 110 goals for her career, eighth all-time at Tufts since the
program was started in 1975.
At 11:34 of the first half at Middlebury, Miller scored her 100th goal.
She added another in that contest, a 19-6 loss to the #2 Panthers. She went on
to score four goals in a 16-6 victory against Babson on Thursday and five more
at Connecticut College on Saturday. She has 31 goals for the season, to go with
a team-high 12 assists for 43 points.
Miller is nearing her career high for goals in a season. She had 34 (with nine assists)
in 14 games as a sophomore in 2004, when she was voted on to the All-New England
Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) second team. That followed her
freshman campaign of 17 goals and 10 assists for 27 points in 2003. Last year
she scored 28 goals with 14 assists for 42 points. In 51 career games, she has
scored 110 goals with 45 assists for 155 points to rank eighth on the Tufts career
scoring list.
With the goal at Middlebury, Miller became the first Jumbo to score 100 career goals
since Katie Richardson reached the century mark in 2001. Rebecca Black (1993-96)
and Jenny Payette (1979-82) share the all-time Tufts lead for goals with 180
apiece.
Tufts has four regular-season games remaining and a likely appearance in the NESCAC
post-season tournament. The Jumbos are 8-2 overall and 3-2 in the NESCAC. Head
Coach Carol Rappoli's team was ranked #11 in last week's Intercollegiate
Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) national poll.
