NESCAC runner-up Stephanie McNamara

NEW GLOUCESTER, Me. -- Sophomore Stephanie McNamara (North Attleborough, MA) continued her fine 2008 season by finishing in second place at the 2008 NESCAC Cross Country Championship at Pineland Farms. The event was hosted by Bates College.

Amherst's Elise Tropiano took the individual title, covering the women's 6K course in 21:49 -- a course record, as the race was the first on the women's 6K course at Pineland. McNamara finished second in 22:17, followed by Middlebury's Alexandra Krieg in 22:25. McNamara's sensational sophomore season now includes three firsts, this second, a third and a sixth at the All-New England race.

Tufts sophomore Amy Wilfert (Westborough, MA) also ran an excellent race, finishing just outside of the top 10 in 11th place overall with a 22:36 time. The two top performances helped Tufts place fourth out of 11 teams at the meet. The Jumbo score of 139 was four in front of Amherst (143) and 14 behind third-place Colby. The women's team title was shared by Middlebury and Williams, both with 48 points, as both the Panthers and Ephs placed their top five runners among the race's top 15 individual finishers.

Senior Amy Hopkins (Williston, VT) placed 43rd and scored 37th for Tufts with her 23:55 time. First-year Anya Price (Natick, MA) was 50th overall with a 24:11 time that scored 43rd. Close behind that was junior Lisa Picascia (Holmdel, NJ) with a 24:17 finish that placed 55th and scored 46th.

Also competing for Tufts was senior Veronia Jackson (Durham, NH) and sophomore Elana Davidowitz (Palos Verdes, CA), who had 24:36 and 24:54 times, respectively.

Next weekend, Tufts will compete in the ECAC Championships at Bristol Park, Rhode Island.
