Tufts University senior Cindy Manning (Valparaiso, IN/Valparaiso) won a race for the second straight week to lead the women's cross country team to victory at the Fitchburg Invitational on Friday afternoon. Jumbos took four of the top five spots overall and logged 20 points to win convincingly over a second-place Holy Cross "B" team (36 pts.). Manning posted a 19:17 finish that was 1:29 faster than the second-place time of 20:46 registered by Tufts freshman Allyson White (Canton, MA/Canton). Tufts sophomore Heather Ballantyne (Winchester, MA/Winchester) and junior Jenn Edelmann (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield) both crossed the finish line within 21:05 for fourth and fifth, respectively, overall. Freshman Mary Nodine (Portland, ME/Portland) scored fifth for the Jumbos with a 21:26 time in eighth overall.
