WILFERT WINS SECOND NESCAC HONOR WITH NEW ENGLAND CHAMPIONSHIP
PERFORMANCE
MEDFORD --
As the top finisher among conference runners, and second among all
New England Division 3 runners at the 2009 New England
Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEIAAA) Cross Country
Championship on Saturday, junior Amy Wilfert (Westborough,
MA/Westborough) of the Tufts University women's team has earned
her second New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC)
Performer of the Week honor.
Wilfert was 11th overall at the New England Championship, which was
held at Franklin Park in Boston. She finished with an 18:18 time
that was two spots and two seconds ahead of Amherst's Sophia
Galleher, who placed 13th overall with an 18:20 time. The NEIAAA
Championship features competitors from Division 1, 2 and 3 teams.
Among Division 3 runners, Wilfert was behind only MIT's Jacqui
Wentz, who ran 18:06 for third place.
Tufts placed 22nd out of 49 teams overall at the NEIAAA race, led by
Wilfert.
After running to the first cross country victory of her college
career back on September 12, Wilfert was selected for her first NESCAC Performer of the Week
award on September 14.
At the season-opening Trinity College Bantam Cross Country Race, she finished with a time of 15:56
that was 16 seconds ahead of second-place finisher
Michelle Wallace from The College of New Jersey.
