CROFTON WINS 33rd ANNUAL CODFISH BOWL CROSS COUNTRY RACE

MEDFORD - Tufts senior Leslie Crofton (Somerset, MA/ Somerset) placed first at the 33rd Anuual Codfish Bowl Cross Country Meet at Franklin Park in Boston this past Saturday (Sept. 23). Crofton ran her best race of the season with a time of 18:13.3, bettering her previous best by more than a minute.

Crofton edged out 178 other runners for the top place, including rival runner Abigail Anthony from Bates College, who placed five seconds behind Crofton in second. The two runners dualed previously at the Hayseed Classic in early September with Anthony winning easily by a minute and a half. Crofton gained a bit of revenge on Anthony with her win at the Codfish Bowl.

Junior Heather Ballantyne (Winchester, MA/ Winchester) placed seventh with a time of 19:23 and was the only other Jumbo to place in the top ten. Head coach Kristen Morwick's team placed comfortably in third overall with 108 points. New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) rivals Amherst and Connecticut College were first and second, respectively.

Crofton won her previous race at Fitchburg State College on Friday, September 14th with a time of 19:22. Tufts captured the top four places in this race and won easily with 16 points.

Crofton and the Jumbos will be back on the course this Saturday at the Tufts Invitational in Grafton, beginning at 12 noon.
