VORLICEK NAMED NESCAC MEN'S SWIMMING PERFORMER OF THE WEEK
MEDFORD -- Freshman Chris Vorlicek (Del Mar,
CA/Torrey Pines) of the Tufts University men's swimming team was
selected as the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC)
Performer of the Week for January 21-27. He is the first Jumbo to
earn the honor that was newly established this year.
In Saturday's home
meet against local rival MIT, Vorlicek started his day by finishing
in third place in the 1,000 freestyle with a 10:21.69 time. He was
later the runner-up in the 500 Freestyle by touching in 4:53.69.
Then, with two
events to go in a close meet against the Engineers, Vorlicek swam in
his third event of the meet, the 400 IM, finishing in first place
with a pool record time of 4:15.95. This gave the Jumbos a chance
to win the meet in the final relay and was a career best unshaved
time for him. Vorlicek's time places him second on the NESCAC Top
Times list for the 400 IM.
Tufts lost the competitive meet 154-144 despite
Vorlicek's excellent swims. Coach Adam Hoyt's Jumbos are 4-2 overall
heading into a tri-meet at Wheaton with Bates on Saturday.
