BAKER, GODSEY TO COMPETE AT NCAA SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS
MEDFORD – Tufts University juniors
Brett Baker (Centennial, CO) and Jon Godsey (Dallas, TX)
will both swim in three events at the NCAA Division III Swimming &
Diving Championships hosted by Hope College in Holland, Michigan on
Thursday through Saturday (March 17-19).
Baker will enter in the 50-yard
freestyle on Thursday, the 200 freestyle on Friday and the 100
freestyle on Saturday. He was the New England Small College Athletic
Conference (NESCAC) champion in the 200 freestyle with a
school-record time of 1 minute, 41.53 seconds. He was also the
conference runner-up in the 100 freestyle with a time of 46.64
seconds.
The school-record time in the 200 has Baker as the eighth seed in
the event entering the national championships. He earned a spot in
the NCAA meet with his 200 freestyle time, and as a result is
allowed to compete in two other events at the national meet. Baker
is the 27th seed in the 100 freestyle and the 40th
seed in the 50 freestyle (21.46 seconds).
Godsey will swim in the 200 individual medley on Thursday, the 100
backstroke on Friday and the 200 backstroke on Saturday. He
qualified for NCAAs with his time of 51.83 seconds in the 100
backstroke, which he swam as part of the 400 medley relay at the
NESCAC meet. He will also swim in the 200 backstroke, where his best
time of 1:54.36 is seeded 22nd. In the 200 IM, Godsey is
ranked 38th entering the meet with his 2:00.35 time.
Baker swam for the Tufts 200 freestyle relay at last year's NCAA
meet in Missouri, taking the anchor leg and helping the foursome to
a 15th place finish in 1:25.88. Both Baker and Godsey
were All-NESCAC selections as freshmen in 2003 and again this
season. Baker was also All-NESCAC as a sophomore in 2004.
