SEVEN JUMBOS NAMED TO ALL-NESCAC SWIMMING TEAMS

MEDFORD – Following the 2004-05 New England Small College Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships, the conference has announced this year's all-NESCAC men's and women's teams. The individuals are honored based upon their finishes at championships, with the top three finishers in each event earning spots on the teams.

The Tufts Men, who finished fourth at the meet, had six swimmers with at least one top three finish. Junior Brett Baker (Englewood, CO/Cherry Creek) was a part of four top-three finishes, including two individual events. He won the 200-yard Freestyle with a school-record time of 1 minute, 41.53 seconds. In the 100 Free he was second with a time of 46.64 seconds.

Junior Jon Godsey (Dallas, TX/Jesuit College Prep) is on the all-conference team for his second-place performance in the 50-yard Backstroke, swimming 24.12 seconds in the finals for a school record. Senior tri-captain Seth Baron (Dallas, TX/Plano West) earned his spot with a third place finish in the 200-yard Butterfly, finishing with a time of 1:54.46 in the finals. Sophomore Greg Bettencourt (West Granby, CT/Westminster School) posted a third-place finish in the 200 free, finishing behind Baker with a time of 1:44.13.

The 800-yard Freestyle Relay team of Bettencourt, sophomore Justin Fanning (Concord, MA/Concord-Carlisle), Baron and Baker finished second with a school-record time of 6:56.12. In the 400 Free Relay, Tufts finished third as junior Jason Kapit (Garrett Park, MD/Walter Johnson) joined Bettencourt, Fanning and Baker to post a 3:08.16 time.

Along with a solid sixth-place finish, the Tufts Women are represented on the All-NESCAC team by freshman Bianca Spinosa (Charlottesville, VA/Western Albemarle). She qualified with a second place-finish in the 50-yard Butterfly, sprinting her way to a 26.26 finish in the finals for a school record.

Nearly all of this season's qualifiers are expected back on the Tufts rosters next year. Most of them are awaiting word on whether their times will qualify for the NCAA national championship meet.
