CAMBRIDGE -- The Tufts University men's squash team advanced to the championship round of the 2005 Summers Cup, but fell short to conference rival Colby College, 5-4.

Tufts freshman Jake Gross (Washington, DC) won his third match of the tournament, defeating Colby's Ryan Phelan by a 3-1 margin at the top spot for the Jumbos.  At the #5 spot, senior co-captain Fernando Kriete (San Salvador, El Salvador) swept his opponent, posting a 3-0 victory over Colby's Mark Biggar.  Also victorious for Tufts were freshman Kris Leetavorn (Bangkok, Thailand), who won his third match of the weekend, 3-1, after dropping the first game, and sophomore David Linz (Avon, CT) who also posted a 3-1 victory over his opponent.

The loss was a tough one for the Jumbos, as victory was well within their grasp.  Junior Tom Keidel (Watertown, CT) held match point over Colby's Andy Carr, but Carr rallied to take the final two games 10-8 and 9-5 for the victory.  The competition saw several very close match-ups, with matches that could easily have gone either way.
