JAKE GROSS NAMED TO INAUGURAL ALL-NESCAC MEN'S SQUASH TEAM

Senior tri-captain Jake Gross earned a spot on the first All-NESCAC team

MEDFORD -- Senior Jake Gross (Washington, DC) of the Tufts men's squash team was one of 10 players named to the first-ever New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) All-Conference team announced on Friday (Feb. 22). The team, along with a Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Coach of the Year were voted upon by the league's head coaches. Five teams overall are represented.

Gross is the fifth-ranked player in NESCAC according to the College Squash Association (CSA) individual rankings from January 20. Trinity College, which won its 10th consecutive national title this winter, played three players on the All-NESCAC team. Each are nationally ranked among the top 15. Bates College's Ricky Weisskopf is the 10th ranked player nationally. Gross is #26 on the national list.

Gross has 16-2 record this season heading into the CSA individual championships at Navy this weekend (Feb. 29 through Mar. 2). Dartmouth's 17th ranked Andrew Boumford beat him in five games on November 28 and Weisskopf took a four-game win on February 8. Gross had two wins during the season against fellow All-NESCAC pick Jon Barry from Williams, and also defeated All-NESCAC selection Mark Rapisarda of Amherst.

Gross has a 17-2 overall record for the year entering the individual championships. That brought his career mark at Tufts to 53-21 in four season, a new Tufts record for career wins. He went 4-0 at the NESCAC Tournament February 1-3 as the Jumbos split four matches and finished sixth.
