MEDFORD -- The Middlebury College men's soccer team posted its third
consecutive win by shutout to start the 2007 season, scoring a 1-0
victory at Tufts University in a NESCAC game played at Kraft Field
on Saturday afternoon.
Junior Casey Ftorek (Wolfeboro, NH) scored the
Middlebury goal in the 59th minute. The Panthers took advantage of a
misplayed header with freshman Carson Cornbrooks (Williston, VT)
passing to Ftorek for a shot at the top of the box. The goal was
Ftorek's second of the season.
Middlebury, ranked 23rd nationally in the National
Soccer Coaches Association of America poll, improves to 3-0 overall
and 2-0 in NESCAC. They have out-scored their opponents 5-0 so far
this fall. Tufts remained winless at 0-2-1 overall and 0-1-1 in
NESCAC.
The Jumbos played well despite taking the loss. They
finished with a 10-9 edge in shots, including 7-2 in the second
half. Middlebury keeper Brian Bush (Madison, WI) finished with six
saves, including four in the second half.
The game was a typically physical affair between two
NESCAC's, with 39 fouls whistled (22 for Middlebury) and three
yellow cards flashed.
Junior David McKeon (Loudonville, NY) had two
stops in the Tufts goal.
