Peter DeGregorio |
MEDFORD
-- One of just two seniors on a young Tufts University men's soccer
team this fall, Peter DeGregorio's (Whately, MA) play at
midfield and on defense has earned him second team recognition for
the 2008 season in the New England Small College Athletic Conference
(NESCAC). The All-Conference selections were announced today
following a vote of the league's 11 coaches.
DeGregorio made both offensive and defensive contributions to a
Jumbo season that finished with an 8-6-1 record, the best by a Tufts
team since 2004. With his ability to make good offensive runs,
DeGregorio tied for second on the team with seven points on two
goals and three assists. Coach Ralph Ferrigno moved him back to
defense in the middle of the season to take advantage of his
experience. The Jumbos would finish the season fourth in the
conference with a 1.04 goals against average. Tufts finished the
regular season strong, winning three out four conference games. They
allowed just one goal in each of those games.
DeGregorio was at his best in the team's 3-1 victory against
Williams on October 18. He had two assists in the game, helping the
Jumbos turn a 1-0 lead into a 3-0 margin. Tufts had been 0-12-1 in
its previous 13 games versus Williams since beating them in the
first round of the 1994 NCAA Tournament. He followed that effort by
scoring a goal in the team's 2-1 league win in its next game against
Wesleyan.
The Jumbos finished sixth in NESCAC this season with a 4-5
record. In addition to Williams and Wesleyan, they also defeated
Connecticut College and Bowdoin.
