GUIGLI EARNS NSCAA ALL-NEW ENGLAND EAST REGION HONORS

MEDFORD – Wrapping up a career during which he played in all 60 games over four seasons, Tufts University senior tri-captain was named to the 2005 National Soccer Coaches Association of American/adidas NCAA Division III All-New England East Region Second Team.

An NSCAA Fourth Team pick last season, Guigli was also an All-New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Second Team selection this fall. He scored four goals with four assists for 12 points to place second on the team and led the Jumbos with 53 shots.

Two of his goals and four assists came in conference games for eight points in nine NESCAC contests. He scored the eventual game-winner at Wesleyan and also had an assist in a 2-0 Jumbos win on October 26. He had two assists in a 3-2 victory over Trinity, including setting up a golden goal by teammate Mattia Chason (Rome, Italy/Lycee Chauteaubriand) one minute into overtime. His other assist came in an impressive early-season victory over Amherst. Twice he scored important first goals of the match against MIT and against Bates, though Tufts could not hold those leads.

For his career, Guigli scored 10 goals and 10 assists for 30 points. He had his most productive season this fall. Last year he scored four goals as a junior, in 2003 he tallied two goals and three assists, and as a freshman in 2002 he accumulated three assists.

"Mike is one of the best and most talented midfielders I have coached in my time at Tufts," Coach Ralph Ferrigno said. "He always possessed a lot of natural ability and continually improved throughout his time with me. Senior year he became a dominant player. Though the team did not have its best season, his level was consistently high. He must be one of the best midfielders in the country at the Division 3 level."

Tufts finished 5-8-2 overall and were sixth in NESCAC with a 4-5 record. They lost 1-0 to Middlebury in the first round of the conference tournament.
