MEDFORD
- Coming off his team's upset victory over NESCAC rival Bowdoin on Saturday,
Tufts sophomore Ben Castellot's (Newton, MA/Loomis Chaffee) week continued to improve as
the conference recognized him for his contribution to that victory.
After an impressive two-goal performance, the forward was named the
NESCAC Player of the Week.
Castellot,
who had played in six games prior to Saturday, had yet to tally a point on the
season. That would quickly change
however, as he converted three shots into two goals at Bowdoin, decisively
lifting his team to victory. The
Polar Bears had been tied for first place in the conference entering the match.
Castellot's first goal came at an opportune time, putting the Jumbos up 2-1 five
minutes into the second half. His
second proved even more significant, coming in overtime to give his team the
win.
The
victory boosted the Jumbos in-conference record to 2-3, placing them seventh in
the standings, and to 5-3-1 overall. Bowdoin's
record is now 4-2, dropping them to fourth among NESCAC teams. This was a critical win for the Jumbos, boosting both their
record as well as their confidence, knowing that it should get the talented
Castellot on track after a slow start.
Tufts'
other goal in the game came 13 minutes into the first half as Mike
Guigli (North Stonington, CT/Wheeler) put one in from 25 yards out off a
pass from Todd Gilbert (Chicago,
IL/Francis W. Parker School). Gilbert's
assist keeps him among the NESCAC leaders in points per game with a 1.33
average.
Castellot,
who has started his team's last two games, will continue to be one of the first
eleven on the field when the Jumbos host Plymouth State on Wednesday at 4:00.
