SCOTT CONROY NAMED NESCAC CO-PLAYER OF WEEK
MEDFORD - Junior goalkeeper Scott Conroy (Madison, CT/Choate Rosemary Hall) was named the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Co-Player of the Week for September 15-21. Bowdoin College forward Bobby Desilets was also honored.
Conroy
helped lead Tufts to a 1-0-1 week, allowing only one goal and making 16 saves in
200 minutes of action. The Jumbos
played local rival MIT to a 1-1 tie on Wednesday (Sept. 17), then recorded their
first victory of the season at Connecticut College on Saturday (Sept. 20) with a
2-0 win. In the game against
Connecticut College the Camels enjoyed a 12-8 shots advantage over the Jumbos.
They could not get one past Conroy, who made nine saves. Including seven stops
against MIT, his numbers for the week were an excellent 0.45 goals against
average and 94.1 save percentage.
This
is the Jumbos' fourth Player of the Week honor in the past three seasons. A
three-year starter and junior captain for the Jumbos, Conroy currently sports a
0.86 goals against average, fifth-best in the league, and averages 4.75 saves
per game, seventh in the NESCAC. He was hindered in the pre-season by a knee
injury, but is back in good form as the Jumbos look to earn a home field berth
into the conference playoffs for the first time since 2000.
Head
Coach Ralph Ferrigno's team is 1-2-1 overall, 1-1 in the NESCAC, with key
NESCAC games coming up for them. This
Sunday they will travel to Bates College to play a team that is already 0-3 in
the NESCAC. The Jumbos will return
home in October to play non-conference foe Endicott College on the 1st, and then
host league rival and fifth-ranked Bowdoin College in the Jumbos' Homecoming
game on the 4th.
