PRINDIVILLE, STITCHBERRY, MacGREGOR NAMED SOCCER CAPTAINS
MEDFORD- Tufts University seniors Mike Prindiville (Manchester, CT/Loomis Chaffee) and Brad Stitchberry (Bryn Mawr, PA/Radnor), along with junior Matt MacGregor (Little Compton, RI/ Middletown), were named captains of the 2001 men's soccer team this year, and are currently leading the Jumbos to a 2-1 start for the season. Covering both offense and defense, this trio's presence is felt through every part of the field.Starting the game in the defensive line, Prindiville has recorded four points in his career at Tufts with four assists during his junior year. His leadership in back has been invaluable in all of the Jumbos' games this year and his experience is evident with his confident play. As a starter last year Prindiville helped the Tufts defense allowed only 1.18 goals per game. At Loomis Chaffee Prindiville was named to the All-State team and he has played in the Olympic Development Program (ODP) for Connecticut.
Stitchberry resides in the middle of the field and has recorded 11 goals and seven assists for his career as a Jumbo. As a junior Stitchberry scored four goals and tallied three assists, for a total of 11 points. During the Jumbos' pre-season trip to Europe this past August Tufts battled with the under-19 professional club team Tranmere which plays in England's first division. Stitchberry tallied the Jumbos' only goal in the 85th minute of that game to give Tufts a 1-1 tie.
MacGregor covers the offensive end of the field and during his career at Tufts has tallied ten goals and nine assists for a total of 29 points. Leading the team in scoring as a sophomore MacGregor scored seven goals and nine assists for the season. MacGregor played for the ODP in Rhode Island and on the Bayside United Club team during his time at Middletown High School.
The Jumbos are coming off an excellent season last year, winning the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship 3-1 over New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) rivals Bowdoin College. Rising from 7th seed the Jumbos en route to the championship beat Babson 3-1 and Keene State 1-0. Tufts complied a 11-5-2 record for the season and ended up fourth in the NESCAC.
