WATERFORD, Conn. -- Tufts senior Jesse Faller (Burlington, MA)
edged Division 2 Southern Connecticut's Joseph Poulsen at the
finish line to win the 2009 Connecticut College Men's Cross Country
Invitational at Harkness Park on Saturday.
Faller's time of 25:17 was three seconds faster than Poulsen's
and led the Jumbos to a first-place finish at the meet. The win was
the second of Faller's career, including the Codfish Bowl last fall
on this weekend.
With three runners scoring in the top 10, Tufts totaled 48 points
to out-distance second-place Bowdoin College (64). Brandeis was
third with a 111 score. Sixteen teams were in attendance overall at
the eight-kilometer race.
Senior captain Nick Welch (Seattle, WA) was second for
Tufts and fifth overall with a 25:34 time. Jumbo junior Jeff
Ragazzini (Wilton, CT) was ninth with a 25:41 race.
Two freshman runners also aided the Tufts cause with excellent
performances among the field of 214 runners. Matt Rand (Cape
Elizabeth, ME) and Kyle Marks (Carmel, IN) crossed the
finish line back-to-back in 25:56 (15th) and 26:01 (16th),
respectively. Though he didn't score, sophomore Conor Rose
(Irvine, CA) was also in the top 20 at 26:04.
Coach Ethan Barron's Jumbos are idle next week.
