WATERFORD, Conn. -- The Tufts Men's Cross Country team started its 2005 season with a fifth place finish at the Connecticut College Invitational on Saturday. The Jumbos did not have a runner in the top 20, but placed all five scorers in the top 50 to accumulate 173 points.
The College of New Jersey won the race with 74 points, led by top scorer Matt Randal in second place overall with a time of 25 minutes, five seconds over eight kilometers. Unaffiliated Adam Fitzgerald won the race in 24:58.
Senior co-captain Matt Lacey (Amherst, MA) led the Tufts effort with a 25th place finish in 25:47. Junior Justin Chung (Manchester, CT) and senior Kyle Doran (North Attleboro, MA) crossed the finish line together for 35th and 36th place in 26:01 and 26:02 respectively.
The race marked the coaching debut of interim Jumbo leader Ethan Barron.
