Monday, September 28, 2009FALLER SCORES THIRD NESCAC PERFORMER
OF THE WEEK HONOR
MEDFORD --
For the third time of his career, senior Jesse Faller (Burlington,
MA) of the Tufts University men's cross country team has been
selected as the New England Small College Athletic Conference's
(NESCAC) Performer of the Week. He won this past Saturday's race at
the Connecticut College Invitational, leading the Jumbos to the team
title.
Faller won on the eight-kilometer course at Harkness Memorial State
Park in Waterford, Connecticut. His time of 25:17 topped a field of
214 runners. Faller, Division 2 Southern Connecticut's Joseph
Poulsen and Bowdoin's Thompson Ogilvie were tied with a mile left in
the race. Poulsen took a lead, but with 400 meters to go Faller
began his closing kick from about 25 meters back. He passed Poulsen
with 200 meters to go and won by three seconds.
His individual victory was one of three top 10 finishes by Tufts,
whose final team score of 46 was 20 ahead of second-place Bowdoin.
It was the team's first victory in an eight-kilometer race since
September 2006 at the Tufts Invitational.
Faller's win was the second of his career. His first-ever NESCAC Performer of the Week
award came last season after he won the 41st Annual Codfish
Bowl at Franklin Park in Boston on September 27, 2008.
