BOSTON – The Tufts Jumbos erupted with a 27-3 run over the final 8:31 of the first half to gain an 18-point halftime lead and cruise to a 78-58 victory at UMass-Boston in men's college basketball action between Greater Boston schools on Thursday night.

The run erased a six-point deficit and closed out the first half with a 44-2 lead. Freshman center Craig Coupe (Niskayuna, NY) led the run with eight points, and he went on to lead Tufts with 18 points and 11 rebounds.  UMass-Boston had trailed 15-9 with 14:05 showing in the first half, then went on a 14-2 run behind four points from junior forward Paul Kemp to take their biggest lead at 23-17 with 8:53 to go in the first half.

The Jumbos took over from there. Junior Mike McGlynn (Medford, MA), junior Lee Neugebauer (Sayville, NY) and sophomore Deyvehn East (Greenfield, MA) all drained three-pointers to give Tufts a 26-25 lead at 6:57 of the first period as part of the half-ending outburst.

McGlynn netted 13 points with three threes, while Neugebauer contributed six points, five assists and four rebounds. Roger Perry led UMass-Boston with 17 points, while classmate Billy Allen dropped in seven points and grabbed eight rebounds.

The Jumbos have the weekend off, then host local rival Brandeis on Tuesday (Jan. 14). The Judges are coached by former Celtic player and coach Chris Ford.
