| Who we are |
The Tufts University African Student Organization seeks to empower, encourage, and
ultimately enlighten the Tufts community as a whole. We not only endeavor to
educate our community about African culture and traditions, we also seek to
bring to light many of the political and contemporary issues
surrounding the African continent and community all together.
Formerly known as the African Political, Social and Cultural Organization (APSCA) the
organization has shifted its focus from a more strictly political standpoint
to a primarily cultural organization open for membership to all members of the
Tufts community, including those of the Dental and Medical Schools and the Fletcher
School of Law and Diplomacy. A strong sense of community amongst the
members of the organization is fostered through a realm of different
activities and sub-divisions of the organization’s members.
Through several community outreach and awareness initiatives in conjunction with the
vibrancy of “Blackout” the All-Male Step team,
the organization has continued to serve as a force to be reckoned with on the Tufts campus.
Bi-monthly interactive discussions, cultural workshops, intercultural shows
and other events are central to the upkeep and establishment of the African
Student Organization as a distinguished institution on campus.
