Start House Application ProcessAsian American House - Small Group Housing Unit
HOUSE INFOAsian American House (Start House) is a Small Group Housing Unit, which offers undergraduates an opportunity to live with others who are interested in learning about and coordinating programming that support the experiences of Asians in the U.S. All Tufts undergraduates who have an interest in and a commitment to programming events related to Asian American experiences are encouraged to apply.Applicants should be actively involved with Asian American educational initiatives on campus. As the Asian American Center is also located in Start House and works closely with the House, residents must be supportive of the Center and its mission. Therefore, students who are (or have been) involved with organizing Asian American programs and who have attended campus educational events focused on the Asian American experience are especially encouraged to apply. The House seeks a diverse representation of students. Applicants should be mature, responsible, respectful, and open to working with all aspects of the Asian American community. Residents are required to coordinate House programs/projects for the Tufts community. These programs/projects may be organized and co-sponsored with any of the Asian student organizations, other related campus organizations, the Asian American Center or other Centers, and/or academic departments. Six students reside in the House in two singles and two doubles on the 2nd and 3rd floors. All residents are required to make a full-year commitment to the House. APPLICATION, SELECTION and NOTIFICATION PROCESSApplicationTo apply to the House, please complete the Contact Info sheet and respond to the Application Questions on a separate sheet of paper. Applications (hard-copies only) must be submitted to the Asian American Center by 4:00 PM, Friday, February 1, 2008. Click here to download a copy of the application. Interviews Interviews are required as part of the application process. When submitting your application, please sign up for an interview with Patricia Dao-Tran and Jannet Jang, Student House Managers, and Linell Yugawa, House Advisor. While there is always interest in living in the House from students who are studying abroad, priority for selection will be given to students who are present for an in-person interview. Students applying from abroad will only be notified about an interview if there is strong interest in their application, at which point a phone interview (at the applicant’s expense) will be required. Notification and Acceptance of Offer Applicants selected to live in the House will be notified of a decision BEFORE General Lottery takes place. Therefore, if offered a room in the House, applicants must ACCEPT or DECLINE the offer at the time of notification and sign a Housing Contract which will remove their names/numbers from General Lottery.
